Detecting initial aragonite and calcite variations in limestone–marl alternations

چکیده
Limestone–marl alternations are commonly used for high-resolution cyclostratigraphic studies and palaeoenvironmental reconstructions, but diagenetic indicate that not all limestone–marl reflect genuine differences in the initial sediment composition driven by environmental changes. Differences ratios of diagenetically inert trace elements between limestones marls changes affecting terrigenous fraction precursor sediment. Contrarily, without these can be product of: (i) variations CaCO3 input (aragonite, calcite); (ii) distortion latter redistribution; or (iii) redistribution a homogeneous The aim this study is to provide method differentiate cases identify proportion calcite aragonite composition. model differential diagenesis assumes concentration inversely proportional amount redistributed CaCO3. Fabrication of Single-Crystalline Calcite Needle-Like Particles Using the Aragonite–Calcite Phase Transition
Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) occurs in two major polymorphs: rhombohedral calcite and orthorhombic aragonite, the latter is thermodynamically metastable. In this study, we first prepared aragonite needle-like particles by introducing CO2-containing gas into Ca(OH)2 aqueous slurry. Then, the resulted aragonite particles were heat treated at 500 ◦C for 1 h, in order to induce the aragonite–calcite p...
متن کاملDetecting Verbal Participation in Diathesis Alternations
We present a method for automatically identifying verbal participation in diathesis alternations. Automatically acquired subcategorization frames are compared to a hand-crafted classification for selecting candidate verbs. The minimum description length principle is then used to produce a model and cost for storing the head noun instances from a training corpus at the relevant argument slots. A...
متن کاملRe-evaluating boron speciation in biogenic calcite and aragonite using 11B MAS NMR
Understanding the partitioning of aqueous boron species into marine carbonates is critical for constraining the boron isotope system for use as a marine pH proxy. Previous studies have assumed that boron was incorporated into carbonate through the preferential uptake of tetrahedral borate B(OH)4 . In this study we revisit this assumption through a detailed solid state B magic angle spinning (MA...
متن کاملDecadal changes in the aragonite and calcite saturation state of the Pacific Ocean
[1] Based on measurements from the WOCE/JGOFS global CO2 survey, the CLIVAR/CO2 Repeat Hydrography Program and the Canadian Line P survey, we have observed an average decrease of 0.34% yr 1 in the saturation state of surface seawater in the Pacific Ocean with respect to aragonite and calcite. The upward migrations of the aragonite and calcite saturation horizons, averaging about 1 to 2 m yr , a...
متن کاملSynchronous barium peaks in high-resolution profiles of calcite and aragonite marine bivalve shells
Barium/Calcium profiles of bivalve shells are characterized by flat background signals periodically interrupted with sharp peaks, with the background signals correlated with water Ba/Ca. To test if the peaks are an environmental signal related to productivity, we analyzed high resolution Ba/Ca profiles in bivalve shells that grew adjacent to one another. Two aragonitic Saxidomus giganteus show ...
